An Official, Public or Sworn Translation is a translation prepared by a public translator, approved in a public exam and licensed by the State Commercial Register.  This type of translation has “public faith” in the entire territory of Brazil and may be required by bodies of foreign countries.

The sworn translation is required When documents in a Foreign language need to be submitted in Brazilian territory for judicial proceedings, government bodies or agencies, or even to educational institutions, Registries of Deeds and Documents or other types of notary offices.  A sworn translation may also be required by international bodies and institutions in Foreign countries.

A sworn translation must be signed by a sworn public translation, approved in a public exam and licensed by the State Commercial Register

A certified translation is provided by a professional with certification by an association of translators, such as the ATA (in the United States) and the NAATI (in Australia), and it includes their signature, name and statement that the contents of the translation match the original exactly.

A free or simple translation is used when the text does not require public faith.

A sworn translation must be executed by an official translator licensed by the State Commercial Register in order for the translation to receive public faith in Brazil.

Yes. Since the publication of the Normative Ruling No. 72, on December 19, 2019, by the National Department of Corporate Registration (DREI) of the Digital Government Office, it is possible to issue a sworn translation with an electronic signature.

The ruling sets forth in its article 24 that:

“Public translations can be carried out electronically with the use of a digital certificate or through another medium that allows for the unequivocal Identification of authorship and integrity of the documents electronically.”

Translations with electronic signatures are safer, more cost and time efficient.

Yes, a 2nd copy of the translation can be requested at any time.

When the 2nd copy is provided along with the original, 20% of the original amount is charged per copy. If the 2nd copy is requested at a later time, 50% of the original amount is charged per copy.

In the case of sworn translations with electronic signatures, the requester can print as many copies as it may be necessary, as the certification is done electronically.

Yes. Check the requirements for your translation directly from the requesting body. It may be necessary to contract a sworn translation or to request the services of a translation certified by ATA (American Translators Association) for documents submitted in the United States or by NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) for documents submitted in Australia. We have professionals with both certifications. 

Yes. In all agencies of the Municipalities, States or Federal Government, in any instances, courts or entities sponsored, inspected or directed by public bodies. 

No.   However, some documents, such as Criminal Clearance Certificates have a term of validity, and its sworn translation will only be accepted as long as the original document is still valid. 

No. The original document and its sworn translation must be apostilled separately. 

The original document must be apostilled to attest the validity of the signatures listed therein before submission for translation.

When it is necessary to also apostille the translation, this process must be carried out after the sworn translation has been concluded.

Documents with origin in foreign countries must be apostilled in the country of origin. 

A sworn translation can be carried out the submission of hard copy or electronic copy of the original document or a copy certified in a notary office. Check with the institution or agency where the document will be submitted.

The price of sworn translations is charged per corresponding page (lauda) of one thousand (1,000) characters without space.

Translating from a foreign language (not Portuguese) into another foreign language (not Portuguese) is more expensive due to the degree of difficulty and the time necessary to execute the translation.

In order to speed up the translation process, you can send your Microsoft® Word document and include reference materials that can be useful to the translator, such as a glossary of terms you prefer, list of websites and other materials.

It is possible to use the resource “Word Count” of Microsoft® Word to calculate this in .DOC and DOCX files. In other types of files, it is necessary to convert your file to calculate words or pages (laudas).

Apostille is a certificate provided by notary offices attesting to the veracity of documents. This is a requirement arising from the fact that Brazil is a signatory of the Hague Convention, in effect since August 14, 2016. Before requesting a sworn translation, your document must be apostilled in order for this information to be included in the translation. 

Apostille makes the recognition of signatures and documents a more efficient and less bureaucratic process.

The two expressions are synonymous. Both correspond to the real-time translation for an audience who does not understand the language of the event.

In simultaneous interpretation, the interpreter usually works in pairs, in a booth, using a series of equipment that transmit the translated messages directly to the headphones used by the participants.

In consecutive interpretation, the speaker pauses so that the interpreter can translate the message to the event participants. No equipment such as transmitters and receivers are required in consecutive interpretation. In case of bigger environments, a microphone may be necessary.

Price is based on time. We follow the table of SINTRA (National Union of Translators):

Up to 1 hour, 1 interpreter is used.
Up to 6 hours, 2 interpreters are used for one language.
After 6 hours of event, overtime applies.

For Simultaneous Interpretation in face-to-face events, you must also rent transmitter and receiver equipment. In online events, the software usually has its own features for simultaneous interpretation, which can replace the need for such equipment. Aliança Traduções also offers the rental of interpreting equipment.

In the case of hiring an on-site interpreter, you must also rent the equipment, even in the case of online events with on-site interpreters.  

A booth must be available for each language. The contract is made according to the languages requested by the client and the number of hours of the event.

The cabins, equipment and number of interpreters will depend on the scope of the event.

Two interpreters are required per language.

Libras interpretation is a work that requires a lot of hand gestures and effort. As it is necessary to express feelings and emotions, professionals are almost always standing and moving.

Interpreters take turns in a shorter period of time compared to Simultaneous Voice Interpreters.

LSP stands for “Language Service Provider”. The term is used to define, in broader terms, companies or individuals that provide varied language services to their clients.

Thus, a “Language Service Provider”, in addition to translation services, also offers interpretation, localization, transcreation, proofreading and linguistic consulting services. 

In case of cancellation, after the approval of translation services, the pages that have already been translated are charged and the partial translation is sent to the client. In case of cancellation after approval of other services, 20% of the quoted amount is charged.

Free translations and digital sworn translations are sent by email, through a download link from our portal, or through a secure drive. Hard copies of sworn translations can be picked up at our office or sent by mail or by carrier. Delivery costs can be paid along with the translation fee. 

Yes. In the case of documents with two columns in two languages, we provide a Certificate of Correspondence, which certifies the equivalence of the original text and translation.

This service is only provided for texts in the Portuguese-English and Portuguese-Spanish language pairs.

No. The seals and ribbons present in the original documents must not be removed, as they will be mentioned in the translation. Our team has the expertise and technology to scan official documents.
